We’ve all heard this- “Gosh, time flies” “I can’t believe another year has gone by already” So why does time seem to go by faster as we get older? I was talking to a friend at the health club the other day about this as we were sitting in the sauna shooting the breeze.
He said something that made it clear to me. He said that the reason time seems to go faster as we age is because we have less time in our future relative to our past. In other words, when we are young we have not lived as many days or years. So each day seems longer in context because there are less days to compare it to. As we age, the number of days we experience continues to grow and our mind frames that past with our present. Therefore, comparing one day to 365 or even 3,650 is a smaller ratio that 1:14,600 (a 40 year old person)
Interesting stuff!
